There are a few free Internet fax services out there. Be careful with these however. You know the old adage that "you get what you pay for". These free services are usually on a small server with limited capacity, offer you no choice of a local or toll free number and actually have a limit on what you can do. These services usually only let you receive a limited number of faxes for free and do not let you SEND faxes for free.

That will cost you 10 to 12 cents per page. Also they will bill you a minimum fee of $5 or $10 dollars to send the 3 pages you want to send. You can still use the remaining money in your account to send faxes but you'll likely NOT get a refund if you don't use it. Most users are better off with a pay Internet fax service.

Monthly fee for Internet fax services
Almost all pay for email fax, Internet fax service charge a minimum monthly fee to receive faxes via email. This fee ranges from $3.99 to $19.99 depending on the features and reliability you want. Always look at the price vs. feature comparison before making a choice. The cheapest service is not always the best for you.

Included pages
How many included pages does a fax service include in its package. Most services include some amount of Inbound or Received faxes. A few will include outbound or sent faxes as well. There are many combinations and you'll want to choose carefully. Be sure to look at the price per page after you've used your free pages. Depending on how many pages you receive or send each month could have a dramatic effect on your bill if the extra page charge is $0.12 vs $0.08 or less. Beware, some services bury how many pages you get in the fine print of Terms and Conditions.

Sending Attachments as faxes with Internet fax Internet fax services let you attach documents to your email fax that will get changed to a fax in the network and then sent to a fax machine. Make sure the service you choose supports the document types you want to fax. A few services are Microsoft certified and let you fax directly from Microsoft Office 2003. Webfax
Most of the good email fax Internet fax services offer a Webfax interface that lets you get your faxes while your on the road. This is a great feature you'll love.
